Travel Tips from your Ithaca Airport Community

Everybody learns from experience! Because of that, we asked our Ithaca community to share their travel tips on Facebook. We compiled the list of tips below.

  1. Go ITH….easy in, easy out. Good food, friendly staff. It’s almost like flying directly from your own home. Love you ITH.
  2. Limit yourself to carryons whenever possible and pack toiletries outside the zippered portion of your luggage for easy access at the security checkpoint.
  3. Two tips… 1. Choose ITH.. best small airport every. and 2. Always pack a couple of Ziploc bags (quart and gallon)… slide them into your suitcase. They always come in handy.
  4. My trip tip, always fly from Ithaca! We’ve always had good service, flights on time and economical parking!!
  5. When traveling overseas bring ONE plug adapter and one power strip. Use the adapter to plug in the strip and then you can plug all your electronics (phone, laptop, camera, etc) into the power strip like normal!
  6. I always carry an empty water bottle with me. I then fill it up after security. I like the airports that have water bottle filling stations.
  7. Get a ride to the airport and get hammered. By the time you get sober, you should be boarding and can sleep through the first leg of your flight.
  8.  I like to, at the destination, go directly to the Car Rental site, get my rental car, and then go get my bag from the baggage claim, instead of waiting 20 minutes for the bags to come out, I get my car and then the bags.
  9. Pack each category of clothing in a clear plastic bag. Never unpack. You will always be able to find what you want whether the bags are in your suitcase or anywhere else.
  10. Pack a battery tea light for a night light at your hotel or cruise ship cabin. Just enough light to find your way & not trip over furniture, walk into a wall or disturb others.
  11. Bring portable snacks in your carry-on bag in the event your air schedule is revised and you don’t get time to fuel up before your next flight.
  12. If you have time, walk around airports instead of riding moving walkways or trains. Exercise can give you energy during a long day of travel.
  13. I like flying from a small airport, the TSA lines smaller and faster. My tip is be nice and gracious to the people that are getting you where you want to go.
  14. Be prepared for a nice long wait in DTW, PHL or EWR, bring a good book and make sure to have some money for the pub.
  15. Choose the emergency exit seats. You can usually get those seats at no extra cost and then you get more leg room for free!
  16. You never need to take as much as you think you do.
  17. Dress comfortably and enjoy meeting new people.
  18. Get a passport card or REAL ID license. You will need these to fly domestic flights by 2020.
  19. Dress comfortable.
  20. Relax and enjoy!

We chose a random winner and sent them a free ITH water bottle and luggage tag. To participate in similar contests like this, “like” us on Facebook. Thank you to all who participated!
