Ithaca’s Sustainable Airport Master Plan Gains National Attention

Airport Manager Robert Nicholas was recently asked to address the “Airports Going Green” Conference that was held November 15 through 17 at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Chicago’s “Miracle Mile.”

The conference, hosted by Mayor Richard M. Daley and the Chicago Department of Aviation, was opened by Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, who confirmed the Obama Administration’s enthusiastic support of the aviation industry’s sustainable initiatives : “Airport after airport – from San Diego, to Dallas/Fort Worth to Ithaca, New York – has taken steps to advance the cause of sustainable development.”

After the presentation on Ithaca’s Sustainable Airport Master Plan – the first in the nation – Nicholas was asked to join an Airport CEO Roundtable with airport managers from Dallas/Fort Worth, San Diego, Chicago and Beijing to answer general questions from the floor. The conference was attended by over 300 U.S. and international airport executives, aviation industry leaders and environmental experts.
